Abuja — National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) don announce say all students wey dey find admission enter tertiary institutions across Nigeria go now do mandatory drug test.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd.), reveal dis new policy for Abuja after government reappoint am for second five-year term.
Marwa explain say di aim na to detect drug use early and stop young people from entering full-blown addiction. He talk say Federal Ministry of Education don already approve NDLEA proposal.
He say: “Di Honourable Minister of Education don accept our recommendation wey talk say children must do drug test when dem dey enter tertiary institutions. Na early detection we need so we fit intervene before drug use turn addiction.”
Di NDLEA boss talk say di initiative na part of bigger preventive framework wey dey discourage drug abuse and encourage youths to choose better, legal and productive lifestyle.
He add say NDLEA go continue support legal crop cultivation as safer means of livelihood.
Marwa also restate NDLEA commitment to prevention, awareness, counselling, treatment and rehabilitation. He reveal say under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, government don budget for seven more rehabilitation centres for 2025, meaning say very soon every state for Nigeria go get rehab facility.
As him talk about crackdown, Marwa warn drug traffickers and all wey dey do illegal drug work:
“Anybody wey no wan stop, make una sure say NDLEA dey ready. We go arrest una, seize una drugs and forfeit una assets.”
