Abuja, Nigeria – The House of Representatives don set up ad-hoc committee to investigate the $460 million Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) project for Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as security wahala dey rise for Abuja.
Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, talk say the plenty kidnappings, armed robberies, and killings wey dey happen for Abuja no good at all. E talk say Abuja, wey before dey calm, don become place wey crime dey rise.
Rep. Julius Pondi wey represent the Speaker, question why the multi-million-dollar CCTV system wey Chinese loan help fund never reduce crime for FCT. E talk say Nigerians need know whether the project work well, dem stop am, or if people mismanage am.
Abbas talk say the committee go check everything about the CCTV project – if e dey work, if e dey connect with security agencies, and why e fail. Dem go still find out if anybody neglect the project or sabotage am, and dem go recommend how to make am work well.
Abbas call on FCT Minister, Finance Minister, Interior Minister, Inspector-General of Police, area council chairmen, and heads of security agencies make dem help the committee. E also ask traditional rulers to dey share correct security info with police.
Committee Chairman, Rep. Ojogo Kimikanboh, talk say Abuja don turn “theatre of fear” because crime dey rise. E talk say the failed CCTV project na “big scandal,” because despite the $460 million wey dem spend, e never protect people as e suppose do.
Ojogo talk say the committee go audit the project, check technical side, see if e dey work, and find out why crime still dey happen.
E conclude, “We no dey do witch hunt, na truth hunt we dey do. We go work with integrity and make people trust say government fit protect dem.”
The House don promise say dem go use all power wey dem get make sure say the CCTV project dey work and security for FCT improve.
