ABUJA — President Bola Tinubu don write Senate make dem approve deployment of Nigerian soldiers go Benin Republic after the coup attempt wey shake the country on Sunday.

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, read the letter during plenary on Tuesday.

Tinubu talk say him action dey based on Section 5(5) of the 1999 Constitution as amended, and because Nigeria get responsibility to help maintain peace for West Africa, especially as Benin na sister country wey dey share border and long friendship with Nigeria.

According to the President, the Benin government formally call Nigeria make dem assist after some soldiers under the name “Military Committee for Refoundation,” led by Lt. Col. Pascal Tigri, seize the national TV station for Cotonou and announce say dem don overthrow President Patrice Talon.

But the coup fail as Nigerian fighter jets and ground troops quickly enter action after Benin government request help. The intervention help restore order for the country.

Senate go now consider Tinubu request as the situation for Benin dey gradually return to normal.
