Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE) don officially remove Simon Ekpa as im Prime Minister amid im continued detention for Finland.
For statement wey dem release on Thursday, BRGIE announce say Ogechukwu Nkere don emerge as new Prime Minister, to replace Ekpa.
According to the statement, Nkere get unanimous election by BRGIE cabinet on January 14, 2026.
“On January 14, 2026, the Honourable Ogechukwu Nkere was unanimously elected by the cabinet of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE) to serve as Prime Minister, succeeding Simon Ekpa Njoku, who was relieved of his position by the cabinet,” the statement talk.
Before now, Nkere don dey act as Acting Prime Minister of BRGIE since December 2024, after Finnish authorities detain Simon Ekpa.
Nkere also don serve as Finance Minister of the group and be longtime BRGIE representative for Washington DC, United States, where e work closely with U.S. government officials alongside BRGIE lobbyists.
The statement further say while e dey for U.S., Nkere meet several top American government officials, including Senator Ted Cruz and Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, wey be number two person for U.S. presidential line of succession.
Simon Ekpa, wey be popular Biafra separatist figure, was sentenced for Finland on September 1, 2025. The development don mark major leadership change inside the Biafra Republic Government in Exile, as the group try reorganise amid legal and political challenges.
