Serious explosion rock Maiduguri, Borno State on Monday evening, as bomb blast hit area around Monday Market Maiduguri and near security post for University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

Witnesses talk say the explosions happen almost the same time around 7:02pm, just few hours after suspected Boko Haram insurgents launch coordinated attacks on different military positions across the state.

Many people fear dead, while several others sustain injuries from the blast. Eyewitness say some victims don already rush go State Specialist Hospital Maiduguri for treatment, as emergency responders dey work to rescue more people.

Head of Operations for Federal Fire Service Nigeria for Borno, Mohammed Kafaran, confirm the incident, say dem don deploy personnel go the scene to assess situation.

One resident wey witness the blast say, “I just leave post office dey go when I hear loud explosion. Everywhere scatter immediately.”

Earlier Terror Attacks Repelled

Before the bomb explosions, suspected terrorists launch attacks around 12:35am for different military locations including Ajilari Maiduguri, Damboa and Baga.

Security forces, including troops from Operation Hadin Kai, police, Civilian Joint Task Force and other operatives, manage repel the attacks successfully.

Police spokesperson for the state, Nahum Daso, confirm say joint security teams stop the attackers and restore calm for affected areas.

Residents report say heavy gunshots and explosion happen during the Ajilari attack, while terrorists also try enter Damboa through military base but security forces resist them.

Concern Over Rising Attacks

Security analysts warn say the coordinated nature of the attacks show say insurgents still get operational strength, especially around the Sambisa–Lake Chad region.

The Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation condemn the attacks, describe am as cowardly and dangerous to national security.

The foundation urge Nigerians to support security agencies with useful information and call for better funding, logistics and welfare for troops to fight insurgency effectively.

As at the time of this report, rescue and assessment operations still dey ongoing, while tension for Maiduguri don gradually reduce.
