The Federal Government don approve new guideline wey go change how Nigerian graduates go dey mobilise for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
President Bola Tinubu give di approval under Section 2(4)(4) and 16(1)(C) of di NYSC Act, as im also make am compulsory say every graduate must follow di National Policy for Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD) before dem fit serve or even collect exemption letter.
According to di new rule, Nigerian students must deposit dia academic work – like project or thesis – inside di NERD databank. Government say dis policy go help fight certificate racketeering and protect di value of Nigerian education.
Di Secretary to di Government of di Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, issue one circular wey make am clear say from October 6, 2025, no graduate – whether dem finish for Nigerian school or abroad – go fit mobilise for NYSC or get exemption if dem never comply with NERD.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, earlier talk say di NERD policy apply to all schools – public, private, military or civilian – including nursing schools, agriculture colleges and research centres.

Serve as quality check on academic work.
Time-stamp students’ scholarship and academic footprint.
Help lecturers and students earn money from dia academic deposit through monetisation reward system.
Spokesperson for NERD, Haula Galadima, explain say every deposit must carry student full name, supervisor and HOD name, plus di institution wey produce am. She add say because lecturers name go dey visible online beside dia students’ project, e go push lecturers to raise standard of academic supervision.
Di Federal Government also direct critical agencies like NIMC to provide data-sharing support so onboarding for schools and students go easy.
Dis new guideline no go affect corps members wey don already dey serve before di enforcement date.
