Federal Government don cancel the 43-kilometre Port Harcourt–Aba road contract wey China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) dey handle, the Minister of Works, David Umahi, announce after him inspection for the site on Sunday.
Umahi talk say dem don warn CCECC more than 20 times because the contractor dey do road work anyhow — dem dey lay binder for long stretch without put wearing or proper shoulder and now part of the road don near collapse. Because of this, government don decide say CCECC no go continue again for the Aba-bound carriageway.
The minister order make them give CCECC 14-day notice of termination and make dem mill out the wrong binder dem don lay and replace am at their own cost since government don already pay. Umahi warn say if dem no comply, him go shut down all CCECC projects for Nigeria.
“We go carry the job go qualified indigenous contractor wey go start work immediately, and we go find the money make dem finish am,” Umahi state.
He also promise say government go publish the warnings wey dem don give the contractor so everybody go see, and that dem go hold the company responsible to avoid accidents and possible loss of life on the road.
