Chairman of House of Representatives Committee on Internal Security, Hon. Garba Muhammad, don talk say National Assembly don receive strong threat from terrorists wey dey plan bomb the complex for Abuja.
Muhammad yarn dis one on Tuesday during public hearing for one bill wey dem wan take set up Legislative Security Directorate — one plan wey go help boost security for inside National Assembly and protect lawmakers, workers and people wey dey visit the place.
E talk say the National Assembly building don dey face plenty security wahala like motor and okada theft, vandalism, fake ID cards and people wey dey enter without proper registration.
According to am, the level of security threat don reach point wey e need quick action to avoid any bad thing.
“We don get threat from terrorists to bomb National Assembly Complex and from protesters wey talk say dem go lock am up,” Garba talk.
“If we no act fast, e fit affect plenary, oversight and all legislative work — and dat one go scatter our democracy.”
E talk say to get better security, government need do am well, use multi-layer approach and follow international standard to protect lawmakers and the building.
Garba still talk say even though National Assembly suppose open for citizens, e still need tight security to protect everybody wey dey inside.
E come advise state Houses of Assembly to secure their own buildings too before wahala start.
“Dis bill na one important step to make sure say our National Assembly dey safe. We no fit wait till bad thing happen before we act,” e add.
E remind people say for May 2021, one similar security alert don come out about Boko Haram plan to attack National Assembly and other government places for Abuja, and that time dem increase security checks wey cause heavy traffic for the gate.
