ASUU Don Vex, Say Education Minister Dey Misinform Nigerians – Threaten to Start Strike

University of Jos branch of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) don accuse Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, say im dey talk “misleading things” about how federal government don meet agreement wey dem get with university workers.

For one statement wey the branch chairmo, Prof. Jurbe Joseph Molwus, sign, the union warn say if government no fix the matter inside two weeks, dem go resume the strike wey dem suspend before.

ASUU remind government say dem don already give four weeks ultimatum since October 22, 2025, make dem meet all pending demands or face another total strike. But two weeks don pass now and dem say “nothing serious don happen.”

According to ASUU, lecturers still never collect their 3.5 months withheld salary, 25/35 percent wage award arrears, promotion arrears, and some members never even see salary at all.

“As we prepare for our NEC meeting wey go happen for November 8–9, we expect say all these money matter for don clear. But instead of credit alert, na only press release we dey hear from the Honourable Minister of Education. We no need talk, we need alert,” the statement talk.

The union also talk say the ₦50 billion Revitalisation Fund wey government claim say dem don release never reach any university hand.

ASUU still rubbish the minister claim say ₦2.3 billion don enter universities to clear salary and promotion arrears, call am “false and embarrassing.”

“The minister just dey imagine say dem don pay backlog. ₦2.3 billion no even fit solve the problem of three universities. Make im tell us wetin exactly the money cover and for who,” the statement add.

ASUU yarn say dem no go tire to fight for better welfare and funding for public universities, and warn government make dem stop to dey talk anyhow for press while lecturers still dey suffer.
