Doctors wey be members of Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) for Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abuja, don confirm say dem go join di nationwide strike wey Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) plan to start on Monday, January 12, 2026.
For statement wey di FMC Abuja ARD executive committee release on Thursday, dem express strong anger over wetin dem call Federal Government failure to honour agreements wey dem reach with NARD. Dem say constant break of agreement, poor welfare condition and neglect don seriously affect doctors morale and healthcare delivery.
According to di statement, di strike wey dem tag Total Indefinite Comprehensive Strike (TICS) 2.0 get nine major demands. Dem include reinstatement of five doctors wey dem sack from Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja, implementation of delayed promotions, payment of salary arrears, and full implementation of professional allowance with all outstanding arrears captured inside di 2026 national budget.
Other demands include clear explanation from Federal Ministry of Health and Office of di Head of Service on skipping and entry-level matters, return of specialist allowance, and solving delay for house officers’ salary payment.
Di committee say, “Healthcare system no fit work well when di workforce dey constantly disrespected, overworked and treated with broken promises.”
Dem add say di strike don become unavoidable because government no keep di Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) wey dem earlier sign with NARD, despite several meetings and assurances.
According to dem, resident doctors dey very important to survival of tertiary healthcare for Nigeria, but persistent neglect don reduce morale, affect training and threaten quality healthcare service.
Even though dem admit say di strike fit cause inconvenience to patients and general public, dem urge Federal Government to quickly show seriousness by implementing all outstanding agreements.
Meanwhile, resident doctors for Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC) don also announce say dem go join di nationwide strike.
For statement wey dem issue for Osogbo and sign by di association president, Dr Jesunbo Martins, and secretary, Dr Toyyeb Oladipo, dem say di strike go start by midnight on Monday, January 12, after emergency meeting.
Dem reveal say out of 83 resident doctors for OAUTHC, about 40 dey owed between 10 to 14 months salary arrears, while another 40 never receive March 2024 salary. Dem say di long delay don cause serious financial, psychological and professional suffering for members.
Di doctors now dey call on Federal Government to act fast before di strike further cripple Nigeria healthcare system.
