Vice President Kashim Shettima don arrive Akure, Ondo State capital, to attend the 100th birthday celebration of Afenifere leader, Reuben Fasoranti, and also commission the newly completed Onyearugbulem Flyover.

According to reports, the vice president aircraft landed at the Akure Airport around 11:33am on Monday.

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, together with Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, received Shettima on arrival.

Also present at the airport were Ondo Deputy Governor, Olayide Adelaide, and Director of Corporate Services at the Niger Delta Development Commission, Ifedayo Abegunde, among other top government officials.

Security presence remained heavy across major roads in Akure ahead of the visit.

Personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps and Amotekun Corps were deployed to strategic areas leading to Fasoranti’s residence.

The vice president is expected to first inaugurate the Onyearugbulem Flyover before proceeding to Fasoranti’s home for the centenary celebration.

The flyover project was originally flagged off in July 2023 by late former Ondo State governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

The event attracted political leaders, traditional rulers and dignitaries from different parts of the country as tributes continue to pour in for Fasoranti, widely respected as one of the leading voices in Yoruba socio-political affairs.

Observers say the celebration reflects the elder statesman’s long-standing influence in Nigerian politics and national development.

The commissioning of the flyover also marks another major infrastructure milestone for the Ondo State Government under Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration.
