Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, has announced fresh support from China Industrial Bank (CIB) for the Nigeria Universal Communication Access Project (NUCAP), a major initiative designed to expand digital connectivity across the country.

The project aims to provide communication and internet access to more than 20 million Nigerians living in underserved and unserved communities.

According to Tijani, the partnership represents another important step in the Federal Government’s efforts to bridge the digital divide and ensure that more citizens benefit from opportunities within the digital economy.

He explained that the NUCAP initiative is focused on extending telecommunications infrastructure to remote areas where millions of Nigerians still lack access to reliable internet and communication services.

Boost For Digital Inclusion

The minister noted that improved connectivity will help unlock economic opportunities, enhance access to education, support healthcare delivery and promote financial inclusion in rural communities.

He added that expanding digital access remains a key priority of the Tinubu administration’s plan to accelerate innovation, attract investment and drive economic growth through technology.

According to him, the support from China Industrial Bank will strengthen efforts to deliver critical communication infrastructure to communities that have remained disconnected for years.

Millions Expected To Benefit

The Nigeria Universal Communication Access Project is expected to improve broadband penetration and provide millions of Nigerians with access to digital tools and services.

Industry stakeholders say the initiative could significantly transform rural economies by connecting businesses, students, healthcare providers and entrepreneurs to the digital ecosystem.

The development also aligns with the Federal Government’s broader goal of achieving universal digital access and positioning Nigeria as a leading technology hub in Africa.

With the new support from China Industrial Bank, the government hopes to accelerate the rollout of communication infrastructure and ensure that no community is left behind in Nigeria’s digital transformation journey.
