Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, join President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other top government officials for the 2026 International Fleet Review held for Lagos as part of activities to celebrate the Nigerian Navy’s 70th Anniversary.

The event, wey happen for Eko Atlantic Waterfront, showcase the strength, achievements and maritime capabilities of the Nigerian Navy after seven decades of service to the nation.

During the ceremony, President Tinubu commend the Nigerian Navy for 70 years of dedication, professionalism and commitment to protecting Nigeria’s territorial waters and national interests.

As part of the celebration, the President commission three new naval vessels — NNS Oloibiri, NNS Mambila and NNS Gurara — to further strengthen the Navy’s operational capacity and maritime security efforts.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Matawalle reaffirm the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting the Nigerian Navy through the provision of modern platforms, advanced technology, continuous training and improved welfare for personnel.

According to am, the Tinubu administration remains focused on strengthening the country’s defence architecture in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He note say investment in military equipment and personnel development remains critical to improving national security and enhancing the Navy’s ability to tackle emerging maritime threats.

The International Fleet Review attracted military leaders, government officials, foreign naval representatives and other stakeholders from within and outside Nigeria, as the Navy celebrate 70 years of service and excellence in safeguarding the nation’s maritime domain.

The event also highlighted the strategic role of the Nigerian Navy in ensuring maritime security, protecting economic assets and supporting regional stability across the Gulf of Guinea.
