Headquarters Joint Task Force (North Central) Operation Savannah Shield (OPSS) don reject reports wey accuse its troops of negligence and extortion for Chikanda area of Kwara State.
For statement wey Acting Media Information Officer, Captain Jamilu Muhammed Yahaya sign on Wednesday, OPSS describe the report as false, misleading and deliberate attempt to twist facts.
According to the task force, one online publication allege say soldiers wey dey Yashikara community abandon their duty post during attack and relocate go Chikanda to mount checkpoints for purpose of extorting motorists. The report also claim say troops no respond when attackers invade the Emir Palace for Yashikara.
However, OPSS say the allegation no get any basis because the operation no even get troop deployment for Yashikara community.
“For clarity, JTF OPSS no get any deployment for Yashikara. Our troops dey only for Forward Operating Base (FOB) Chikanda, where dem continue to carry out their duties professionally and diligently,” the statement read.
The task force further insist say its personnel never engage in any form of extortion and have maintained high standards of discipline while protecting lives and property within their area of operation.
On the attack wey happen for Emir Palace on May 25, 2026, OPSS explain say troops for FOB Chikanda receive distress information around 1:45 a.m. and immediately mobilise go the area.
When troops reach the scene, dem discover say terrorists don abduct three women and five children. The attackers also burn part of the Emir residence and two vehicles inside the palace premises.
The military authority therefore maintain say claims that soldiers failed to respond to the attack are false and malicious.
