A high-level delegation from the United Kingdom don visit the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) as part of efforts to strengthen maritime cooperation between both countries.The delegation include the Deputy British High Commissioner, Jonny Baxter, the United Kingdom National Hydrographer, Angus Essenhigh, alongside officials from the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO).

Dem receive the visitors by the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Abubakar Dantsoho, together with the Executive Director, Engineering and Technical Services, and other senior management staff of the agency.

During the meeting, both sides discuss ways to deepen the long-standing maritime relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, especially in areas of hydrography, navigational safety, port development and capacity building.

Speaking during the engagement, the NPA management highlight ongoing efforts to modernise Nigeria’s ports through major investments in port rehabilitation, channel improvement projects and critical infrastructure upgrades.

According to the authority, the projects are designed to improve operational efficiency, attract more maritime business and strengthen Nigeria’s position as a leading maritime hub in West Africa.

The UK delegation also reaffirm commitment to supporting Nigeria’s hydrographic development through technical cooperation and knowledge sharing.

Areas of support discussed include nautical charting, implementation of modern S-100 hydrographic standards, digitalisation of maritime operations and specialised training programmes for NPA personnel.

The meeting is expected to further boost collaboration between Nigeria and the United Kingdom while promoting safer navigation, improved port services and sustainable growth within the maritime sector.
