Nigerian Army Open New Wargaming Centre to Strengthen Training, National Security
The Nigerian Army don commission one modern Wargaming Centre for the Army War College Nigeria (AWCN), Asokoro, Abuja, as part of efforts to improve military training, strategic planning and national security.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, unveil the facility on June 25, 2026, saying the project go help build a more professional, combat-ready and adaptable Army to tackle Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
According to the Army Chief, the new Wargaming Centre na major investment in professional military education and institutional capacity development.
He explain say today’s security environment requires military commanders wey no only get courage for battlefield but also possess strategic thinking, sound judgment and the ability to make effective decisions under pressure.
Shaibu add say the facility go serve as a strategic hub where military personnel fit analyse operations, simulate different security situations and develop practical solutions to emerging threats before dem happen.
The COAS also commend his predecessors for laying the foundation for the project and praised the leadership of the Army War College for acquiring advanced wargaming knowledge through partnerships with allied military institutions.
Earlier, the Commandant of the Army War College Nigeria, Major General Umar Alkali, thank the Chief of Army Staff for supporting the completion and equipping of the centre with modern facilities.
According to Alkali, the Wargaming Centre go provide a realistic environment where participants fit test military campaign plans, evaluate operational strategies and improve joint planning across land, sea, air, cyber and information operations.
He also reveal say the centre go support military doctrine development, operational research, concept validation and strategic analysis.
The newly commissioned facility features two large wargaming halls, four exercise rooms, three theatre laboratories, ten syndicate rooms, a conference room, a library, a digital server room and other supporting infrastructure.
The Nigerian Army believes the centre go significantly improve its ability to anticipate future security threats and strengthen Nigeria’s overall defence capability.
