Atiku Slam Senate Over Electoral Act Delay, Warn Say 2027 Election Dey Danger

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar don accuse di Nigerian Senate of deliberately delaying di amendment of di Electoral Act 2022, warning say di move fit seriously affect di credibility of di 2027 general elections.

According to am, di weaknesses for di law allow serious electoral malpractice and make am very hard for people wey challenge election results to prove their cases for court.

Atiku talk say, “One major setback for di 2023 elections na di loopholes inside di Electoral Act 2022, wey open door for open rigging and make am almost impossible for petitioners to succeed for court.”

He stress say urgent legislative action dey needed if Nigeria wan avoid similar problems for future elections, especially di 2027 polls.

“If we really wan correct di mistakes of di 2023 election, di law wey go guide di 2027 and future elections must be reviewed,” Atiku add.

Di former Vice President further allege say di Senate dey intentionally block di passage of proposed amendments to di Act.

“As e stand now, e don clear say di Senate dey determined to frustrate di amendment of di 2022 Electoral Act,” he say.

Atiku warn say failure to amend di law before 2027 go amount to a deliberate plan to compromise di electoral process.

He say di credibility of di 2027 general elections depend on how fast di Senate handle di amendment bill, adding, “Di Senate must finalise di amendments and make sure say di updated law guide di 2027 elections. Anything less than dis na clear attempt to rig di election even before dem cast ballots.”
