Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, don tell the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) make dem begin verify certificates wey candidates dey submit before every election.
Obi drop this warning for him verified X (Twitter) handle on Monday, as e talk say many people wey dey hold public office today use fake certificates and forged affidavits take enter government after dem pass INEC, security and Senate screening without proper verification.
He talk say the habit of allowing questionable people enter public office don turn crime to normal thing for Nigeria.
“Many public office holders today dey parade forged certificates wey dem take pass screening. INEC no dey even check or revisit these serious issues before another election come,” Obi write.
The former Anambra State governor also lament say anytime he talk about corruption and dishonesty in government, people wey dey part of the crime go always try to attack or blackmail am.
“How you wan tell young Nigerians to live honest life when the people wey suppose show example na the ones wey no clean?” he ask.
Obi talk say if Nigeria no begin hold leaders accountable, the country go continue to dey decay, because dishonesty and criminal behaviour don already enter the system deep.
He urge INEC to make certificate verification a compulsory part of election process, so that only credible, truthful and qualified candidates go enter public office for the 2027 general elections.
