Organised labour for federal public service don issue Friday deadline to Federal Government, demand immediate release of funds to clear three months outstanding wage award and other unpaid allowances for workers across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

Di leadership of Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (Trade Union Side) send di ultimatum through letter to Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, warn say if government fail to meet February 27, 2026 deadline, eight unions for civil service go take decisive action.

N70,000 Minimum Wage Dispute

Di wage award matter start after Federal Government approve N70,000 minimum wage following fuel subsidy removal. Labour leaders say even though government pay part of di money after pressure, three months wage award since July 2024 still unpaid.

For letter wey dem address to Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of di Economy, Wale Edun, unions complain say di delay don drag for over two years.

Dem allege say agencies responsible for payment ready to process di money but dem dey wait for release of funds from Ministry of Finance.

Other Outstanding Payments

Apart from di wage award arrears, labour list other unpaid benefits, including:

  • Promotion arrears for workers promoted over three years ago

  • Salary arrears for employees recruited between 2015 and 2024

  • Proper implementation of 40% peculiar allowance based on di N70,000 minimum wage

Threat Of Industrial Action

Unions warn say if di money no release on or before February 27, dem go take necessary action to protect workers’ rights.

Copies of di letter also send to Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Office of di Head of Civil Service of di Federation, Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, security agencies and affiliate unions.

Labour insist say workers’ entitlements no suppose become political matter and say federal employees no fit continue to suffer over delayed payments.
