269 Nigerians Return from South Africa as Second Evacuation Flight Land for Lagos

The Federal Government don confirm say the second evacuation flight from Johannesburg, South Africa, don arrive Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, carrying 269 Nigerians wey voluntarily return home.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Air Peace flight land on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at exactly 10:48 a.m.

The latest batch of returnees comes after 66 Nigerians earlier arrive Nigeria on June 24, 2026, aboard a South African Airways flight wey one well-meaning Nigerian facilitate.

Officials of the Nigerian Mission in South Africa escort the 269 returnees back to Nigeria.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by the Director of the African Affairs Department, Ambassador Haruna Ali-Gombe, receive the evacuees at the Lagos airport.

During the reception, Ambassador Ali-Gombe deliver President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s message to the returnees, assuring them say the Federal Government remains committed to protecting the welfare and safety of Nigerians living abroad.

The Ministry explain say the evacuation exercise still dey continue, especially as the June 30 deadline given to undocumented foreigners to leave South Africa don expire.

According to the Ministry, more evacuation flights are expected to arrive in Nigeria over the next few days to bring back other Nigerians wey don complete screening and choose to return voluntarily.

The Federal Government also reassure Nigerians say it will continue to engage the South African Government through diplomatic channels to protect the rights and welfare of Nigerians still living in the country.
