
President Bola Tinubu don approve new police academy campus for Ogun State with N15bn take-off grant, as Federal Government move to expand Nigeria Police Academy and improve security training across the country.
According to statement wey Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga release on Monday, the new campus go dey located for Erinja, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The Presidency talk say the approval follow the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act, 2021, wey allow the institution operate as multi-campus university.
N15bn go fund infrastructure
Government explain say the N15bn grant go come from TETFund 2026 allocation, and the money go cover key projects like:
- Academic facilities
- Student hostels
- Training equipment
- Basic infrastructure
Why Ogun campus chosen
Onanuga say high-level meeting wey include Minister of Police Affairs, Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, Inspector General of Police and National Universities Commission officials recommend Erinja as suitable location.
Dem consider factors like student capacity, funding, academic quality and long-term training needs of Nigeria Police Force, especially as recruitment dey increase.
Tinubu focus on security
The Presidency say Tinubu believe say the new campus go help strengthen:
- Modern policing education
- Institutional governance
- National security
First campus under new law
The Ogun campus go be the first satellite campus under the 2021 Act.
Before now, the Nigeria Police Academy start for temporary sites in Kano and Kaduna in 1988, before dem move am go permanent site for Wudil in 1996.
The academy later become degree-awarding institution in 2012 and now offer courses in law, sciences, social sciences and other related fields.
Calls for more campuses
In 2025, House of Representatives don already call for more campuses across the six geopolitical zones to fully implement the law.
With this new approval, government don take first step to decentralise police training and increase manpower development for the force.
