Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Lagos State Government health officials and Port Health Services don step up Ebola prevention measures for Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos, to stop any possible importation and spread of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) into Nigeria.
The move follow a joint inspection of health and emergency response facilities at the airport to assess preparedness against any Ebola outbreak.
Officials from the three agencies review existing health protocols, screening procedures and response systems designed to detect and manage suspected Ebola cases among travellers arriving Nigeria.
According to the authorities, the renewed measures form part of proactive efforts to protect passengers, airport workers and the general public from the deadly virus.
They also stress the importance of collaboration among aviation, health and emergency management agencies to ensure quick detection and response to any potential health threat.
The agencies reassure Nigerians that necessary surveillance and monitoring systems remain active at the airport, while health personnel continue to maintain high alertness.
They further urge travellers and members of the public to cooperate with health officials and comply with all safety procedures aimed at safeguarding public health.
The authorities maintain that continuous vigilance remains critical in preventing the entry and spread of infectious diseases through the nation’s airports.
