President Bola Tinubu don order say every Ministry, Department and Agency (MDA) for Nigeria must begin full implementation of mandatory health insurance as e dey for National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Act, 2022.
Tinubu give Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) instruction make e send circular wey go cover all MDAs. But oga president still yarn say private sector must dey carried along so that business no go dey suffer under the new law.
Wetin the Order Cover
The directive get five strong points:
Enrollment of Workers: Every MDA must put all their workers for NHIA health insurance plan. If dem wan, dem fit still add extra private insurance join.
Procurement Wahala: Any company wey wan do business with government must show NHIA Health Insurance Certificate before dem fit qualify.
Licenses & Permits: Anybody wey wan collect or renew license, permit or government approval must first show valid NHIA Certificate.
Digital Platform: NHIA go create online system wey people fit use check whether certificate na original.
Internal Monitoring: All MDAs must work with NHIA build system wey go dey check and confirm every certificate wey people submit.
Why Tinubu Give the Order
According to presidency, the aim na to give more Nigerians access to health care, protect workers, reduce the plenty money wey people dey pay from pocket for hospital bills, and also promote accountability for both public and private sector.
The NHIA Act 2022 talk say health insurance must dey compulsory for all Nigerians and the agency go make sure everybody get access. But almost three years after, coverage still very low, despite small progress for health sector.
