Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, don call on traditional rulers for Ekiti State to support efforts to ensure say the coming governorship election go peaceful, free and credible.

Professor Amupitan make the appeal on Thursday during meeting with Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers for Ado-Ekiti as part of stakeholder engagement ahead of the governorship election wey go hold on June 20, 2026.

The Chairman of Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers, represented by His Royal Majesty, Oba Joseph Adebayo Adewole II, welcome the INEC delegation and offer prayers for peaceful and successful election across the state.

Speaking during the meeting, Amupitan highlight the important role wey traditional rulers dey play in maintaining peace and unity before, during and after elections. According to am, although electoral laws fit guide the process, lasting peace dey start from communities through the influence of royal fathers.

The INEC boss also reveal say the Commission dey carry out its second readiness assessment visit to Ekiti State to inspect logistics, technology and security arrangements ahead of the election.

He assure the royal fathers say INEC don make adequate preparations and need their cooperation to protect the democratic process and maintain peace throughout the election period.

Giving update on voter statistics, Amupitan disclose say a total of 1,059,360 voters don register for the election, including 66,664 new voters wey join during the recent Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

He also explain say the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) detect and remove 2,103 cases of double registration from the voters register to strengthen the credibility of the electoral process.

According to am, voting go take place across all 16 Local Government Areas, 117 wards and 2,445 polling units in Ekiti State.

The INEC Chairman further reaffirm say the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) go be the only method for voter accreditation across all polling units, stressing the Commission’s policy of “No PVC, No Accreditation, No Voting.”

He urged all stakeholders, political parties and voters to play their part in ensuring a peaceful and successful election.
