First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Launch North-West Food Bank, Give N100m Grant to 2,000 Women Traders
Nigeria First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, don officially launch the North-West Zone of the National Community Food Bank Programme, promising say she go continue to support small businesses and improve the welfare of vulnerable Nigerians.
The launch happen for Jigawa State on Monday as part of the Federal Government effort to expand the programme across the country.
Speaking during the event, the First Lady reveal say since the programme begin for Borno State in April 2026, 560 beneficiaries don register while 468 vulnerable children don benefit from the initiative.
She describe the early results as encouraging and stress say the success of the programme go depend on strong collaboration among government, development partners, organisations and individuals.
“We must work together to build a transparent, accountable and efficient food bank system wey go reach vulnerable households across Nigeria,” she talk.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu also urge stakeholders across the North-West to support the initiative as the Federal Government continue the nationwide rollout.
She explain say Jigawa was selected for the regional launch because of the state’s strong agricultural potential and commitment to improving the lives of its people.
Before the official launch, the First Lady commission the newly completed palace hall of the Emir of Hadejia, HRH Dr. Adamu Maje.
During the visit, she announce a ₦100 million business recapitalisation grant for 2,000 women petty traders in Jigawa State under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Economic Empowerment Programme.
According to her, each beneficiary go receive ₦50,000 to strengthen and expand their existing businesses.
She reaffirm her commitment to supporting small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs), describing them as important drivers of economic growth, job creation and poverty reduction.
The First Lady also note say empowering women entrepreneurs, especially those for grassroots communities, remains one of the best ways to improve family income and boost local economic development.
As part of her visit, Senator Oluremi Tinubu also inaugurate several development projects, including the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Academy, a technology hub facilitated by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Clinic and Dialysis Centre, equipped with modern dialysis machines, as well as the Gandun Sariki Road and the Hadejia–Garun Gabas–Dolan Kwana Road.
The projects form part of ongoing efforts by the Federal Government and Jigawa State Government to improve healthcare, education, digital innovation and road infrastructure for residents.
