FG Unveil DEMIS to Track Every School, Student Across Nigeria
The Federal Government don announce plans to officially launch the Digital National Education Management Information System (DEMIS), a new digital platform wey go help monitor every school, learner and key education data across Nigeria.
The platform go launch on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, alongside the Public DEMIS Portal and the inauguration of DEMIS State Implementation Teams.
According to the Federal Ministry of Education, DEMIS na one of the major reforms under the Nigeria Education Data Infrastructure (NEDI), an initiative wey the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, champion to improve planning and management for the country’s education sector.
Speaking during a media briefing for Abuja, the National Project Coordinator of the Special Programmes Operations and Implementation Unit, Mr. Adebayo Onigbanjo, say the platform go solve the long-standing problem of scattered and unreliable education data wey don affect policymaking and development for many years.
According to am, DEMIS go create one central digital database wey go capture information about schools, students, teachers and government investments in education across the country.
He explain say the platform go provide accurate and real-time information to support budgeting, planning, policy formulation, monitoring and better delivery of education services.
Onigbanjo add say the Federal Government want ensure say education reforms dey driven by verified data instead of assumptions.
“Data no be back-office work again; e don become the engine wey dey drive education reform for Nigeria,” he talk.
Also speaking, the Special Assistant to the Minister of Education on Digital Communications and E-Learning, Miss Mojoyin Adebajo, reveal say DEMIS build on the globally recognised District Health Information Software 2 (DHIS2) platform.
She explain say the system go digitise the Annual School Census, replacing manual data collection with a modern digital process capable of producing accurate and real-time information on schools, learners, teachers and education infrastructure.
According to her, one of the biggest innovations na the Public DEMIS Portal, wey go allow researchers, journalists, policymakers, development partners, civil society organisations and members of the public access selected official education data for the first time.
She say the move go improve transparency, encourage public participation and make credible education information easier to access.
The Ministry also appreciate technical support from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the University of Oslo, saying the partnership play important role in developing the digital platform.
The Federal Ministry of Education express confidence say DEMIS go help close long-standing gaps in education data management, strengthen coordination between federal and state education agencies, and support the Renewed Hope Agenda for quality education.
The Ministry also reaffirm its commitment to work closely with state governments and development partners to ensure the successful implementation of the platform and build a more transparent, technology-driven and globally competitive education system for every Nigerian child.
