The order come from the National Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the National Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Vincent Olatunji, who say the move follow serious concerns about how personal data dey collected and used online.

According to Olatunji, the probe go look into issues like online surveillance, accountability, data minimisation, transparency, duty of care and how Temu dey transfer Nigerians data outside the country.

In statement wey NDPC release on Monday, preliminary findings show say Temu dey process personal information of about 12.7 million Nigerians, while the platform get over 70 million daily active users globally.

Many Nigerians dey use international e-commerce platforms every day because of cheaper prices and access to foreign goods. But NDPC warn say the personal data trail wey users dey leave behind don turn serious matter for national security and individual privacy.

Sources inside the commission tell Daily Trust say investigators dey check whether the permissions wey Temu app dey ask for — like access to contacts, photos and location — really match ordinary buying and delivery of goods.

NDPC say the investigation go determine whether Temu operations dey comply with Nigeria data protection laws, as government insist say Nigerians privacy and data security must come first in the digital economy.
