NEMA Receive 177 Nigerian Returnees From Libya
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos Operations Office, don receive 177 Nigerian returnees from Misrata, Libya, under the Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) Programme wey International Organization for Migration (IOM) facilitate in partnership with the Federal Government of Nigeria.
NEMA carry out the reception exercise on June 22, 2026, alongside the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI).
The returnees land for Lagos around 7:35 p.m. aboard Air Buraq Airlines flight with registration number 5A-BAE. The aircraft touch down for the Cargo Terminal of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja.
Among the 177 returnees, 151 na adults, made up of 66 men and 85 women. Another 14 na children, while 12 na infants.
Immediately after arrival, officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) carry out biometric registration and documentation of the returnees to ensure proper record keeping and support their reintegration process.
As part of efforts to guarantee safe and dignified return for Nigerians stranded abroad, the returnees receive humanitarian assistance including food, clean drinking water, medical screening, ambulance services for those wey need treatment, luggage support and counselling services.
NEMA coordinate the reception exercise with support from NCFRMI, NIS, IOM, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Port Health Services, Nigeria Police Force and other relevant agencies.
According to NEMA, the exercise forms part of the Federal Government’s ongoing commitment to protect the welfare and rights of Nigerians returning from difficult situations abroad while helping them reintegrate into society.
