Wike Build New Police Stations for Abuja Communities to Fight Insecurity

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, don begin build new police divisions for rural and border areas of Abuja as part of him plan to bring security closer to the people.

The move come after months of insecurity wey affect areas like Abaji, Kwali, and Bwari between late 2023 and early 2024. Many people for those areas don suffer from kidnapping and attack by bandits.

Wike talk say the project na part of him promise to decentralize policing and make residents feel safe. He don order make dem build two extra divisional police stations for each of the six area councils to respond fast to crime.

When he visit some of the construction sites on Thursday, work don already move well for Tukashare and Saburi (AMAC), Bako (Kwali), Yaba (Abaji), Giri (Gwagwalada), and Ushafa (Bwari).

For Saburi, the main police station and officers’ quarters don almost complete. The building get office for DPO and other officers, plus holding cells with toilet and bathroom. The quarters also get six two-bedroom flats with kitchen and dining area.

Project Engineer, Ahmed Yahaya, talk say dem don finish electrical and plumbing work, and dem don start to do final finishing and painting.

For Yaba near the Niger border, Site Engineer, Ayinde Adewale, confirm say work go finish before the November deadline because FCT Administration provide enough funding. He add say Yaba dey very important because e connect Niger and Kogi States, and e go help stop criminals wey dey pass through the area.

Residents for the communities happy well-well. One farmer, Musa Yakubu, talk say the police presence go help people sell their farm produce freely without fear. Another resident, Ibrahim Danladi, say, “We don dey feel safe again. People no dey rush go house early like before.”

Officials talk say the new police divisions follow national design wey Inspector-General of Police approve, to make sure all stations get the same standard and comfort. The FCT Director of Security Services talk say this one go make police work easier and help improve security for Abuja communities.
