Gov. Diri Reconcile IYC Factions Ahead of 2026 Elective Convention
Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, don bring together different factions of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide as part of efforts to strengthen unity ahead of the council’s 2026 elective convention.
The reconciliation meeting happen for Yenagoa, where IYC leaders and other stakeholders gather to discuss peace, unity and the future of the Ijaw nation.
Speaking during the enlarged stakeholders’ meeting, Governor Diri urge members of the council to put the collective interest of the Ijaw people ahead of personal ambition.
According to the governor, stakeholders must avoid any action wey fit create division within the organisation as preparations continue for the 2026 convention.
“As we prepare for the 2026 IYC elective convention, make we put the interest of our people first and avoid anything wey fit divide us. Make we continue to build bridges instead of creating walls,” Diri talk.
The governor also encourage IYC leaders to embrace love, reconciliation and mutual respect, saying unity remains the strongest weapon for the development of the Ijaw nation.
He add say a united Ijaw people will be in a better position to pursue their common goals and increase their influence across the country.
One of the major outcomes of the meeting was the reconciliation between Jonathan Lokpobiri and Theophilus Alaye, who both agreed to settle their differences and work together for the progress of the Ijaw Youth Council.
Governor Diri commend both leaders for choosing peace over conflict, describing their decision as a good example for other sons and daughters of Ijaw land.
He also call on all stakeholders to continue promoting dialogue, unity and peaceful engagement to preserve the legacy of the IYC and ensure lasting peace, stability and development across the Niger Delta.
