The family of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, don raise alarm say the agitator fit no appear for court on Friday, November 7, 2025, for him terrorism trial, because of wetin dem call obstruction by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).

For one statement wey Prince Emmanuel Kanu sign on behalf of the family on Thursday evening, dem accuse DSS say the security agency don dey frustrate Kanu by stopping am from preparing well for court.

According to the family, DSS don refuse to give Kanu proper access to him lawyers, family members, and key witnesses wey suppose help am prepare for the case.

“For the past few days, DSS don make am almost impossible for Mazi Kanu to see him lawyers and family. Dem even refuse to allow am submit important court papers wey he need for the hearing on Friday,” the family talk.

Dem add say because of these wahala, Kanu fit no appear for court, no be because he no wan go, but because DSS don block am from getting ready for defence.

The family accuse DSS of violating Kanu’s right to fair hearing by stopping his visitors, recording private meetings with his lawyers and family, and ignoring court orders.

“If Mazi Nnamdi Kanu no fit appear for court or defend himself, DSS and the Nigerian Government go bear the blame,” the statement read. “Dem dey frustrate am and breaking him rights, yet dem go later claim say he no respect court.”

The Kanu family call on the United Nations, African Union, European Union, Commonwealth, and other human rights organisations to monitor the matter closely.

“You no fit dey talk rule of law when you dey silence a defendant and block him right to fair hearing,” the family add.
