The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Calabar (UniCal) chapter, don call on Federal Government make dem quickly sign and begin do the things wey dey inside the Prof. Nimi Briggs-led committee agreement.

ASUU UniCal Chairman, Dr. Peter Ubi, yarn this one for interview with NAN on Friday for Calabar.

NAN report say na Federal Government set up the Briggs committee that year to renegotiate the 2009 FG–ASUU Agreement. The committee even submit new draft agreement since 2021, but government never still approve or sign am.

Dr. Ubi talk say government don refuse to listen to wetin ASUU dey talk, even after the union suspend strike and give dem one-month ultimatum.

According to am, ASUU even shift ground—dem first demand African Average Salaries for professors, later reduce am to West African Average because FG complain. But government reject both and bring the Briggs committee proposal wey ASUU later accept as compromise.

“Our surprise be say the same government wey set up the Briggs committee no wan sign the agreement again,” Ubi talk.

He add say ASUU reject the 35% salary increment wey FG offer because e no tally with wetin Briggs committee recommend.

“Government dey use delay tactics. ASUU position no change—we stand gidigba on the Briggs agreement,” he add.

Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, don talk earlier say the 2009 FGN-ASUU pact still remain the last official agreement between government and the union.
