Federal High Court for Abuja on Wednesday don grant bail of N1.5 billion to former Attorney-General of di Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), together with im wife and son, over money laundering charges.

Trial judge, Justice Emeka Nwite, grant Malami bail of N1 billion, while im wife, Hajia Bashir Asabe, wey be co-defendant for di case, get N500 million bail. Di total bail for di family now stand at N1.5 billion.

Court order say each of di defendants must provide two sureties for di same amount. Di sureties must be landed property owners for highbrow areas of Abuja like Asokoro, Maitama or Gwarinpa.

Justice Nwite also direct make di defendants submit original title documents of di properties for verification and surrender dia international passports to di court. Di sureties must also submit two recent passport photographs and swear affidavit of means.

Di judge further warn say Malami, im wife and son no fit travel out of Nigeria without court approval. Court order make dem remain in custody until dem fully meet all di bail conditions.

Di case come adjourn till February 17 for commencement of full trial.

Malami, wey serve as Attorney-General of di Federation from November 2015 to May 2023 under former President Muhammadu Buhari, dey face 16-count charge of money laundering.

Im son, Abdulaziz Malami, and im wife, Hajia Bashir Asabe, dey stand trial with am. According to prosecution, Hajia Asabe na staff of Rahamaniyya Properties Limited, company wey investigators allege say dem use take launder illegal funds through property transactions.

Di case dey generate serious attention as one of di biggest corruption trials involving a former top government official in recent time.
