Four members of the Rivers State House of Assembly don make sharp u-turn, as dem withdraw their earlier withdrawal and now openly support the impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The lawmakers be Minority Leader of the House, Hon. Sylvanus Nwankwo; Hon. Peter Abbey, wey represent Degema Constituency; Hon. Barile Nwakoh of Khana Constituency I; and Hon. Emilia Amadi of Obio/Akpor Constituency II.

Dem announce their new position on Friday during live broadcast from front of the Rivers State House of Assembly complex, just few days after dem publicly call for peaceful dialogue to settle the political crisis for the state.

Speaking during the broadcast, Nwankwo remind people of their earlier appeal.

“Una go remember say on January 12, 2026, me and my colleague, Honourable Peter Abbey, address the press and beg our colleagues make we find political solution to the problem between the Assembly and the Governor,” he talk.

According to am, instead of embracing dialogue, the governor and his deputy allegedly allow their aides and media handlers to continue attacking the Assembly.

“While we dey wait for response, we notice say the governor and deputy governor dey use their media boys to attack the Rivers State House of Assembly instead of seeking political solution. Na because of this, me and Honourable Peter Abbey don decide say the impeachment process must continue,” Nwankwo add.

Recall say the Rivers State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Speaker Martin Amaewhule, begin impeachment proceedings last week against Governor Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, over alleged gross misconduct.

The allegations include the demolition of the Assembly complex and alleged spending of public funds without approval from lawmakers.

Between Monday and Wednesday, the four lawmakers had earlier announce their withdrawal from the impeachment process, saying dialogue and reconciliation better pass confrontation.

However, on Friday, members of the Assembly insist say the impeachment process na constitutional and remain the only solution to the political crisis rocking Rivers State.

The development come after the Assembly fail to reconvene for plenary on Thursday, one week after adjourning sittings, as rumours spread say internal disagreement dey among lawmakers.

With the latest reversal by the four legislators, the impeachment process don regain momentum inside the House.

Also speaking, Nwakoh and Amadi say dem decide to support the impeachment again after concluding say the governor and his deputy show no genuine interest in resolving the crisis through dialogue.

The tension within the Rivers State House of Assembly continue to rise, as the political battle between the lawmakers and Governor Fubara administration intensifies.
