Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) don extend the deadline for student loan application for the 2025/2026 academic session to February 27, 2026.
The Fund talk this one for statement wey dem issue for Abuja on Thursday, explain say the initial deadline of January 31, 2026, don shift to give students more time to complete and submit their applications.
According to NELFUND Director of Strategic Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, the decision na to make sure say no eligible student miss out because of time wahala.
Part of the statement read, “The Nigerian Education Loan Fund don announce extension of the application deadline for the 2025/2026 academic session from January 31, 2026, to February 27, 2026.”
Reacting to the extension, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, Akintunde Sawyerr, say the move show the agency commitment to inclusion and access to education.
“This extension show our commitment to inclusivity and access. We understand say some applicants need extra time to complete their submissions, and this decision go ensure say every eligible Nigerian student get fair chance to benefit from the Fund,” Sawyerr talk.
NELFUND urge students wey never apply or wey never complete their applications to use the opportunity of the new deadline and make sure say dem submit all required information on or before February 27, 2026.
NELFUND na agency wey dey manage the Nigeria Student Loan Scheme, wey President Bola Ahmed Tinubu sign into law for April 2024.
Under the scheme, the Tinubu administration dey offer interest-free loans to students for public tertiary institutions to help pay school fees and living expenses.
Application for the student loan scheme begin for May 2024, with the aim to remove financial barriers to education and support students from low-income backgrounds.
Beneficiaries go repay the loan after dem finish school and secure employment.
As at January 29, 2026, total money wey government don disburse under the student loan scheme reach ₦174,561,719,810.
