Concerned Professionals for National Assembly don throw their weight behind Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, over im decision to cancel recent appointments wey National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) approve.
Di group describe Akpabio action as lawful, timely and fully in line with due process, say di cancelled appointments no meet legal requirements on competence, seniority and federal character.
Akpabio, wey also be Chairman of NASC, don earlier direct say all future appointments must strictly follow due process, merit, seniority and fair representation of all parts of di federation.
In statement wey dem release on Monday and wey Mr Simon Okechukwu sign as leader of di group, dem say di decision go help restore transparency, fairness and credibility inside di administrative system of di National Assembly.
Dem also urge di Patrick Giwa–led Establishment Committee, wey Senate President set up, make dem thoroughly review staff records and relevant documents before recommending anybody for appointment or promotion.
According to di group, di committee get serious responsibility to ensure say appointments and promotions follow laid-down rules on competence, seniority and federal character balance.
Dem further encourage di committee to open door for petitions from individuals and groups, say such submissions go help expose irregularities, settle grievances and rebuild confidence in di process.
Di group allege say some unqualified persons try influence di appointment process with heavy money, something wey dem say contribute to di faulty appointments wey Akpabio later cancel.
Dem express confidence in di committee chairman, Patrick Giwa, describe am as experienced administrator and former Clerk of di House of Representatives wey dey known for integrity and respect for due process.
Di statement also raise concern over promotions inside di engineering department, where dem allege say some senior officers dey bypass, even though rules require officers to pass at least two promotion levels before advancement.
Wahala follow after NASC approve seven senior appointments — three for House of Representatives and four management-level positions for National Assembly bureaucracy. Di approval spark protests and petitions from staff unions, professional bodies and senior officers, wey accuse di process of violating due process, seniority, competence and federal character.
