Temporary relief no reach former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, as Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) take am into custody last night, few hours after Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) release am.
El-Rufai, wey be chieftain of African Democratic Congress (ADC), don spend two nights with EFCC after he honour invitation on Monday over corruption allegations tied to him time as governor.
Kaduna State House of Assembly reportedly petition anti-graft agencies to probe alleged fraud and misappropriation of over N423 billion under him administration. Some rights activists and lawyer Deji Adeyanju also call for investigation over alleged financial misconduct and abuse of office.
ICPC Confirm Custody
In statement signed by spokesperson John Odey, ICPC confirm say El-Rufai dey their custody as at close of work on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, in connection with ongoing investigations.
The commission no give further details but say the former governor dey assist with probe.
Airport Drama Before EFCC Invite
Last Thursday, security operatives attempt to arrest El-Rufai for Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, but he insist on formal invitation letter before honouring EFCC call two days later.
After EFCC interrogation, reports indicate say he may have been granted administrative bail before ICPC move in.
DSS File Cybercrime Case
Meanwhile, Department of State Services (DSS) don file three-count criminal charge against El-Rufai before Federal High Court, Abuja.
The charge allege unlawful interception of phone communications of National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
According to court papers marked FCT/ABJ/CR/99/2026, DSS claim El-Rufai during television interview admit knowledge of people wey allegedly intercept Ribadu phone calls but fail to report them to security agencies.
Federal Government argue say the alleged act violate Cybercrimes (Amendment) Act, 2024 and Nigerian Communications Act, 2003, and pose threat to national security.
