I’m Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, on Thursday spend second night for custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), as his lawyers protest alleged raid of his house.
El-Rufai bin first dey detained on Monday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before dem release am late Wednesday.
However, immediately after his release, ICPC take am into custody where he don remain till now.
Before his arrest, the former governor write to ICPC through his lawyers, informing the commission say he ready to honour invitation on Tuesday.
The invitation follow incident for airport where operatives of the Department of State Services reportedly seize his international passport.
One ICPC official confirm Thursday night say El-Rufai still dey with the commission but refuse to disclose the exact offence under investigation.
“He still dey with us. I no fit talk the offence wey dem dey investigate. I no really dey office, but I confirm say the former Kaduna governor still dey with us,” the source talk.
Earlier, ICPC also confirm say dem take custody of El-Rufai on Wednesday night but no give details about the probe.
Unverified reports suggest say investigation fit connect to alleged failed N11.1 billion Joint Venture Kaduna light rail project, but independent confirmation no dey yet.
Meanwhile, El-Rufai media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, post on X say ICPC operatives search the former governor residence for Aso Drive, Abuja.
According to am, El-Rufai lawyer, Ubong Akpan, condemn the search, describing am as unlawful and violation of due process and fundamental rights.
The development don spark fresh political reactions as Nigerians dey await official details from ICPC concerning the investigation.
