- Benin City, capital of Edo State, don emerge among top cities for the world after e win $1 million innovation award for the prestigious Bloomberg Mayor’s Challenge.
The international competition attract more than 600 cities from across the world, but only 25 cities from 20 countries reach the final stage. Benin City also stand out as one of just four cities from Africa wey make the final list.
The achievement don place Benin City for global map as city wey dey lead in innovation and modern urban leadership. The recognition also show say the city get strong capacity to create practical solutions to serious public challenges, especially for healthcare delivery.
Reacting to the development, governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, say the award reflect the state government commitment to innovation and the effort to strengthen healthcare systems across the state.
For statement wey him Chief Press Secretary, Patrick Ebojele, sign, the governor say the recognition show the dedication and resilience of the team working to transform healthcare services in Edo.
According to Okpebholo, the global recognition prove say bold ideas wey come from Benin City fit compete and win at international level.
The governor also congratulate the Edo State Ministry of Health and the team wey work on the project, saying the award show say Edo State dey grow as centre for progressive governance and impactful public sector reforms.
Okpebholo further thank the people of Edo State for their continued support and trust in the administration programmes and policies aimed at improving the welfare of citizens.
He add say the recognition na only the beginning, stressing say the government still get more plans to move the state forward.
