Tinubu Begin Historic State Visit To UK Tomorrow After 37 Years

President Bola Tinubu go depart Abuja on Tuesday, March 17, for historic state visit to United Kingdom as special guest of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

The Nigerian leader go travel with the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, as part of official visit wey go last from Wednesday, March 18 to Thursday, March 19.

According to statement from presidency, the British monarch go host President Tinubu and him wife for Windsor Castle during the visit.

The trip mark the first state visit by Nigerian leader to the United Kingdom in 37 years. Tinubu also become the first Nigerian president wey British monarch go host for Windsor Castle.

Nigeria and the United Kingdom get long history of diplomatic relationship, and the visit aim to further strengthen cooperation between both countries especially on immigration, trade, investment and cultural exchange.

During the stay for Windsor Castle, the King and Queen go show the Nigerian President special exhibition of items from the Royal Collection wey relate to Nigeria history.

President Tinubu and King Charles III go also hold private meeting and later meet organisations wey dey promote interfaith dialogue both for the UK and internationally.

For evening event, the Royal Family go organise State Banquet to honour the Nigerian delegation.

The President go also hold important bilateral meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer for 10 Downing Street where both countries go discuss deeper cooperation.

The meeting go lead to the signing of several agreements and Memoranda of Understanding covering areas like trade, investment, defence and cultural collaboration.

One of the major highlights of the visit go be the signing of £746 million financing agreement between UK Export Finance, Nigerian Ports Authority and Nigeria Ministry of Finance.

The funding go support renovation of two major maritime facilities — Lagos Port Complex (Apapa Quays) and Tin Can Island Port Complex.

President Tinubu go also attend the Nigerian Modernism exhibition wey go showcase Nigerian arts and culture, and later meet Nigerian and British business leaders alongside members of the diaspora community.

Among the top government officials wey follow the President for the visit include Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Lateef Fagbemi, Minister of Solid Minerals Dele Alake, and Minister of Information Mohammed Idris.

Other members of the delegation include Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Bianca Ojukwu, Finance Minister Wale Edun, Industry and Trade Minister Jumoke Oduwole, Culture Minister Hannatu Musawa and Communications Minister Bosun Tijani.

Also on the list are Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency Mohammed Mohammed.

President Tinubu expected to return to Nigeria after the completion of the state visit.
