ILORIN — Serious political drama play out for Kwara State on Thursday as one governorship aspirant under All Progressives Congress (APC),
Prince Haliru Dantsoho Mahmud, declare interest — only to step down few minutes later for another contender, Yahaya Seriki Gambari.
Mahmud, wey come from Kwara North Senatorial District, talk say him initially enter the race because him zone never produce governor for many years. But after consultation with party stakeholders, him decide to support Seriki, wey him describe as “better aspirant” to unite the state.
“For almost three decades, Kwara North never get chance to lead. I stand for fairness and unity, but today I step down not because I lose, but because I believe say together under Seriki, Kwara go move forward,” Mahmud talk.
The politician, wey many people sabi as Dan’iyan Kaiama, explain say the decision come after deep discussion with supporters and party leaders.
Him also praise Seriki, say the man get strong record for youth empowerment, grassroots development and unity across communities.
According to am, Seriki vision align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
“This no be retreat, na sacrifice for unity and progress,” Mahmud add, as party members clap for the announcement.
The event happen for one event centre for Old Offa Road, GRA Ilorin, where supporters gather witness the unexpected move.
Mahmud still use the opportunity commend federal and state government, plus security agencies, for how dem respond to the recent Woro incident, as him urge dem make dem act fast to rescue victims wey kidnappers carry.
