
Former Attorney-General of the Federation, Michael Kaase Aondoakaa, don emerge as consensus governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Benue State ahead of 2027 elections and, as e be, the decision follow wide consultations to unite the party. Meanwhile, stakeholders say the move go strengthen PDP chances for the coming poll.
The selection come after about three weeks of meetings, consultations and screening involving party elders, leaders and all 11 aspirants.
Furthermore, key figures like former governor, Samuel Ortom, and Senate Minority Leader, Patrick Abba Moro, take part in the process alongside State Working Committee and other party blocs.
At the end, Aondoakaa emerge as preferred candidate, as other aspirants agree to support the consensus arrangement despite some concerns about zoning.
In addition, aspirants like Prof. Dennis Ityavyar and Rt. Hon. Dominic Ucha reportedly accept the outcome and pledge loyalty to the party ahead of 2027 elections.
Moreover, other stakeholders including Revd. Tor Uja and Prof. Sebastine Hon also align with the decision, showing strong unity within the party.
Speaking after the process, Ortom praise the aspirants for political maturity and urge them to remain united to challenge the current administration.
On the other hand, Senator Moro describe the decision as tough but necessary to boost PDP electoral chances in Benue State.
In his acceptance speech, Aondoakaa promise to unite party members and build strong structure for victory in 2027.
Consequently, PDP leaders say the consensus strategy na to reduce internal crisis and position the party better for the governorship election.
