Global Trade, WTO Reforms Take Centre Stage At Swiss Tech Industry Gathering

Trade experts, business leaders and policymakers gathered at a major meeting of the Association of the Swiss Tech Industry to discuss key issues affecting global commerce, including tariffs, protectionism, geopolitical tensions and ongoing reforms within the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The event attracted more than 1,000 participants who examined the growing challenges facing international trade and explored opportunities for businesses operating in an increasingly complex global environment.

Discussions focused on the impact of trade barriers, shifting geopolitical realities and macroeconomic imbalances on global markets. Participants also highlighted the need for businesses to diversify and decentralise value chains in order to build resilience against future disruptions.

Another major focus of the gathering was the growing importance of services trade, especially digitally delivered services, which continue to play a larger role in the global economy.

Stakeholders also explored opportunities in green trade and sustainable business practices as countries and companies adjust to evolving environmental and economic priorities.

A key highlight of the event was the discussion on reforms within the World Trade Organization (WTO), with participants examining how proposed changes could affect businesses, trade policies and economic growth across different regions of the world.

The meeting also featured the participation of Swiss Ambassador to the WTO, Ambassador Erwin Bollinger, who joined discussions on the future of global trade and international cooperation.

Participants agreed that stronger collaboration, modern trade policies and effective WTO reforms would be critical in supporting global economic stability and creating new opportunities for businesses in the years ahead.
