For him new book “Nigeria Past and Future: Contemplations on Nigeria’s History and Vision for Tomorrow”, Obasanjo talk say today lawmakers worse pass those wey serve for First, Second and Third Republic.
According to am, lawmakers no get shame as dem dey insert constituency projects inside national and state budgets just to chop money. He talk say the thing dey distort budget and dey put Nigeria for deficit every year.
How EFCC Bill Nearly Die for National Assembly
Obasanjo remember how e fight National Assembly over EFCC bill. E say the lawmakers delay am for one year plus and water the law down because many of dem fear say the original bill go carry dem go jail after dem term finish.
“Some of dem even talk say if dem pass the bill as I send am, most of dem for land jail after their time as lawmakers,” Obasanjo yarn.
Obasanjo also mention say the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) bill suffer because state governors bribe lawmakers, make dem remove state contributions wey suppose dey help develop Niger Delta region.
‘Greed, Overspending and Abuse of Constitution’
Baba Iyabo accuse lawmakers say dem breach constitution by fixing their own salaries and allowances wey make dem among the highest paid for Africa and even some developed countries.
He remember say when he be president, he dey always block money wey he see as wasteful. Lawmakers even threaten am with impeachment but e no move.
Constituency Projects and Oversight Wahala
The former president no hide word:
“Constituency projects na daylight robbery. All of dem wey dey involved suppose dey treated as criminals.”
He accuse lawmakers say dem dey use oversight visits as another way to collect money from ministries and parastatals, instead of proper monitoring.
“Dem get committee for every ministry and parastatal. When dem visit, na to collect money. E shockingly bad!” Obasanjo write.
