Aviation Minister Tell Peter Obi to Apologise, Pay ₦25,000 Fine Over Abuja Airport Incident
The Minister of Aviation don ask Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to publicly apologise to airport officials and pay a ₦25,000 fine over an alleged wrongful parking incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The minister made the demand after an internal investigation into Obi’s recent allegation that officials unfairly clamped the tyres of his vehicle as part of what he described as political persecution.
According to the minister, CCTV footage from the airport showed a different account of what happened.

According to the statement, Peter Obi arrived at the domestic terminal of the Abuja airport on Saturday, July 4, 2026, around 8:28 p.m.
The minister said Obi came down from the vehicle while his police driver parked at the terminal entrance and left the vehicle unattended, despite airport regulations requiring drivers to remain inside vehicles parked within the drop-off zone.
He said airport security officials later clamped the vehicle after it was left unattended for about 30 minutes, describing the action as a standard security procedure.
The minister added that airport officials did not know the vehicle belonged to Peter Obi when they carried out the enforcement.
Minister Alleges Influence Was Used
According to the statement, when the police driver discovered the vehicle had been clamped, he contacted Peter Obi by telephone and handed the phone to an airport manager.
The minister alleged that Obi identified himself and requested that the vehicle be released without paying the required parking penalty.
He argued that the incident had already been resolved internally until Obi later spoke publicly and accused the Federal Government of targeting him.
Demands Public Apology
The Aviation Minister said Peter Obi should publicly apologise to airport workers whom he accused of persecution while they were only carrying out their official duties.
He also demanded that Obi voluntarily return to the airport and pay the ₦25,000 parking fine, insisting that no individual should be above the law.
The minister warned that if Obi fails to comply within one week, he would direct the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to take further action.
As of the time of filing this report, Peter Obi has not publicly responded to the minister’s latest statement.
