China don once again reaffirm its commitment to the One-China principle, insisting say Taiwan no be sovereign nation but part of Chinese territory.

Chinese President, Xi Jinping, reportedly warned United States President, Donald Trump, say any wrong move concerning Taiwan fit push both countries into conflict.

The warning came during ongoing summit discussions for Beijing amid rising global tensions over Taiwan matter.


China Speaks During Abuja Media Event

China restated its position during Media Salon wey hold for Abuja, organised by the Centre for China Studies and the Centre for Contemporary China-Africa Research.

The event carry the theme: “Understanding the One-China Principle and its Role in Deepening China–Nigeria Strategic Relations.”

Speaking during the programme, Dong Hairong, say recent developments involving Taiwan show the need for better global understanding of China territorial position.

She referenced the recent visit of Taiwan regional leader, Lai Ching-te, to Eswatini and alleged contacts between some Nigerian journalists and Taiwanese officials.

According to her, such actions promote separatist narratives and distort historical realities.


“Taiwan Never Be Country” — China

Dong Hairong insist say Taiwan has always been part of Chinese territory from ancient times.

“Taiwan never be country before, e no be country now and e no go ever become country,” she stated.

She added say international agreements after World War II recognised Taiwan as territory wey should return to China after Japanese occupation.

According to her, establishment of the People’s Republic of China in 1949 confirmed Beijing as the only legitimate government representing all of China, including Taiwan.


Nigeria Should Deepen Ties With China — Showunmi

Also speaking during the event, Segun Showunmi urged Nigeria to strengthen strategic relationship with China instead of Taiwan.

According to am, China don emerge as major global economic and technological power.

“In another 100 years, wetin Nigeria fit gain from strong relationship with China, Taiwan no fit provide am in 1,000 years,” Showunmi talk.


Most African Countries Support One-China Policy

Provost of the Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria and Director of the Centre for China-Africa Research, Ghali Ibrahim, also maintained say Taiwan no get legal status as sovereign nation.

He praised China for pursuing peaceful reunification despite long-standing political tensions.

According to him, 53 out of 54 African countries currently recognise the One-China principle, while only Eswatini still maintains official diplomatic ties with Taiwan.
