President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially commissioned the Karu Satellite Town Water Supply Network, a major infrastructure project designed to provide treated and portable water to thousands of residents across satellite communities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The project was commissioned on Thursday by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented the President at the event.
The new water scheme includes more than 194 kilometres of secondary and tertiary pipeline networks and will serve residents of Karu, Orozo, Jikwoyi, Kurudu and several neighbouring communities.
Speaking during the commissioning, government officials said the project aligns with President Tinubu’s directive that critical infrastructure development should not be limited to Abuja city centre but should also reach underserved communities on the outskirts of the capital.
The project was awarded in August 2025 and completed within one year, reflecting the administration’s commitment to accelerating infrastructure delivery and improving living standards for residents.
The FCT Administration described the project as a significant step toward addressing the long-standing shortage of potable water in satellite towns, many of which have faced years of inadequate infrastructure despite rapid population growth.
Officials noted that the new water network will improve public health, support economic activities and enhance the quality of life for residents by providing reliable access to clean and safe drinking water.
The FCT Administration also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for supporting people-focused projects aimed at reducing infrastructure deficits and promoting inclusive development across communities in the territory.
Residents of Karu, Orozo, Jikwoyi, Kurudu and surrounding areas are expected to benefit directly from the project as water supply begins to reach homes, businesses and public institutions across the communities.
