ABUJA – Federal Ministry of Environment don raise alarm say heavy rainfall fit cause serious flooding for 15 states and 69 different communities between September 24 and 28, 2025.

The warning come from the National Flood Early Warning Centre (FEW) of the Ministry, and na the Director of Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department, Usman Abdullahi Bokani, sign am.

According to di Ministry, dis advisory na part of dem early-warning system wey dem dey always use protect life, property and farm produce during peak rainy season.

National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) data show say as of September 20, 2025, flood don:

  • Kill 232 people

  • Displace 121,224 Nigerians

  • Affect 339,658 people in total

  • Injure 681 people with different wound level

  • Adamawa: Farkumo, Jimeta, Mayo-Belwa, Wuro Bokki, Yola

  • Anambra: Ogbakuba

  • Bayelsa: Amassoma, Ikpidama, Kalama, Kolokuma/Opokuma, Odi, Odoni, Ogbia, Oloibiri, Oporoma, Otouke, Peremabiri, Sagbama, Yenagoa

  • Borno: Damasak

  • Delta: Abigborodo, Aboh, Abraka, Agbor, Asaba, Forcados, Koko, Okoloba, Okpo-Krika, Patani, Sapele, Ughelli, Warri, Umugboma, Umukwata, Umuchi-Utchi

  • Edo: Benin City, Okada

  • Imo: Egbema, Oguta

  • Kano: Bebeji, Gezawa, Gwarzo, Kano, Karaye, Tudun-Wada, Wudil

  • Katsina: Jibia

  • Ondo: Akure, Ikare, Ita-Ogbolu

  • Oyo: Iseyin, Oyo

  • Rivers: Ahoada, Itu

Government Advice

The Ministry don beg states, local government councils and emergency agencies make dem act fast to reduce flood impact.

“Heavy rain dey come between 24–28 September 2025 wey fit cause flooding for the listed areas. Stakeholders must prepare well and take preventive action,” di alert talk.
