Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, don beg President Bola Tinubu make e intervene for the ongoing demolition of buildings wey belong to Igbo traders for Lagos State.
The matter start after Lagos State officials from the Ministry of Physical Planning, Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Urban Renewal Agency, and Physical Planning Permit Authority demolish some plazas for the Trade Fair Complex, Ojo Local Government Area.
Last week, Labour Party presidential candidate for 2023, Peter Obi, visit the Auto Spare Parts and Machinery Dealers Association (ASPAMDA) section of the market with some federal lawmakers like Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Senator Austin Akobundu, and Senator Victor Umeh. Obi talk say the demolished plazas get valid approval before government bulldozers enter.
But Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Olumide Oluyinka, counter the claim, talk say the demolition no target any tribe and that the buildings no get valid documents and be safety risk.
As Kalu dey speak for Aba, Abia State, during the commissioning of some projects over the weekend, he beg Tinubu to use him influence stop the demolitions.
“Mr. President, the destruction of our brothers’ houses and offices for Lagos dey pain us. For those wey never get proper documents, I dey beg make you appeal to the Lagos governor make dem allow our people to regularise their papers instead of destroying their livelihood,” Kalu talk.
He praise President Tinubu for giving more funds to state governments after removing fuel subsidy, saying e show that Tinubu dey care for all Nigerians, including the Igbo people.
Kalu also use the opportunity beg federal government to create a seaport for the South-East region to boost trade and improve local economy.
