Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan don clear air on reports wey claim say he talk that late President Muhammadu Buhari get connection with Boko Haram. Jonathan say the story wey dey fly around no be wetin he talk and people don twist him statement.

The former president, through him media aide Ikechukwu Eze, issue one statement on Sunday to correct the impression after some of him comments during the public presentation of a book written by former Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, for Abuja cause wahala online and for political circles.

Jonathan for the event talk say during him administration, Boko Haram members once nominate Buhari to act as mediator for peace talk between the group and the federal government. But after the event, some people, especially from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), begin talk say Jonathan try link Buhari to the insurgents.

Eze, for the statement, talk say people misunderstand Jonathan talk. He say, “At no time did Dr. Jonathan suggest, imply, or insinuate that President Buhari had any connection with Boko Haram or that he supported the group in any form.”

The statement further explain say Jonathan only mention the matter to show “the cunning and manipulative tactics wey Boko Haram use during their early days to confuse government and divide public opinion.”

Jonathan team beg Nigerians make dem no believe the wrong stories wey some people dey spread for social media and some media houses.

The statement read: “Dr. Jonathan remain committed to peace, unity and the growth of democracy for Nigeria. He no go ever talk anything wey go divide the country or paint anybody as supporter of terror.”

The clarification come as Nigerians dey still react to the former president’s remarks and the long-running security challenges wey Boko Haram cause for the North-East region.

Jonathan served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015, the period wey Boko Haram insurgency peak and cause major security crisis before Buhari administration come in 2015 with promise to end the violence.
